Final Concert and Heats

Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year is jointly promoted and run by the Three Rivers Music Society, the Rotary Club of Rickmansworth and Chorleywood Music.

Preliminary rounds will take place before two adjudicators on the evenings of Thursday 10 and Friday 11 May 2018. Final Concert will be on Saturday 30th June 2018 at 7pm.

Entrants will be notified of the date and time of their performance by the end of April. There is no charge to listen to the preliminary performances; parents, teachers and friends are most welcome.

The eight competitors selected to perform before three different adjudicators in the Final Concert will be announced after the last heats.

Preliminary rounds and Final Concert venue:
The Baptist Church, High Street, Rickmansworth WD3 1EH

This high profile and well respected music competition for young people has now been going on for 34 years and has established itself not only as a platform for talented young musicians to perform but also serves as a vehicle for the contestants to go on to bigger things in the world of music.  Most years approximately 20-25 contestants primarily from Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex participate in the preliminary heats  and the adjudicators select 8 finalists who perform in the finalists’ concert in front of an audience of around 120 people (we are always trying to increase this number, so please come and support the musicians and the competition so we can continue this work next year and into the future).

A member of the audience one year was heard saying “What is extraordinary is the exceptional standard of musical ability of these young participants. What a job those poor adjudicators have in selecting a winner!”

The concert is attended by the chairman of Three Rivers District Council, who awards all the contestants with certificates and their cheques.
