Rules for the 2018 Competition

The competition is open to young people performing classical music who have achieved at least Grade 7 (Associated Board or equivalent) standard. Competitors must be under 19 years old on the 30th April 2018 and finalists will be chosen from across the age range according to overall merit. Past winners of the first prize are not eligible to enter again.  

  1. A maximum of two pieces may be played in the heats. They must not exceed a total of 5 minutes.
  2. The piece or pieces played in the final must not exceed 12 minutes.
  3. Disregard of these rules can lead to disqualification at the discretion of the adjudicators.
  4. Competitors will be expected to play different pieces in the heats and the final.
  5. Competitors may either provide their own accompanist or ask for an accompanist to be provided at their own expense. The fee of £50 is payable direct to the accompanist who would require a further fee if required to perform in the final.
  6. Competitors must provide a copy of their music for the adjudicators. A photocopy will be acceptable.
  7. The entry fee of £20 is payable to Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year Competition and should be enclosed with your entry form.

  9. Late entries will not be accepted.
